Sunshine Mountain Lodge, Banff’s No. 1 ski-in ski-out lodging

Our stay at Sunshine Mountain Lodge was an extremely magical one, for a number of different reasons! We arrived at the base of the gondola around lunch time, where the check-in process occurs. Here we were greeted by the friendliest girl at reception who welcomed us to the ski field lodge and was very helpful, providing us with lots of recommendations to help us make the most of our one-night stay on the mountain!

With our backpacks full of warm clothes and a few snacks, we jumped on the gondola which was a gorgeous 20 minute ride all the way up to the Sunshine Mountain Lodge. With ariel views of the forests and snow fields below, it was the most incredible entrance that we had ever made to a place of accommodation! We walked straight off of the gondola, and onto the base of the ski-resort - with mountains towering above the clouds in every which direction! There were hundreds of snowboarders and skiers enjoying the numerous runs, kids playing in the snow - good times and smiles everywhere we looked. With chair lifts on our left, bars and restaurants on our right, and the ever-impressive Sunshine Mountain Lodge straight ahead!

We arrived well before general check-in time, and were pleasantly informed that our room was ready for us early and that we could make ourselves at home right away - wonderful! Our spacious room consisted of a queen bed, futon lounge, bathroom, TV, heater, coffee and tea facilities, desk area, and a balcony which from four stories high provided us with some awesome views of the ski fields which were literally right outside of our window! As nice and luxurious as it was inside, there were way too many activities to enjoy outside.. so we rugged up and ventured out!

The reception hire out snowshoes free of charge for lodge guests, and we were advised that there were a few different snow-shoeing paths that we could take around the mountains - and two chair lifts that we were able to ride-up without ski’s or snowboards. So we hit the slopes! With it gently snowing on us while we walked, we made our way to one of the nearby mountain peaks for an epic view of more mountains! Once we were at the top, Kirk announced that he had a little speech to make.. before I knew it, he was on one-knee, pulling out a diamond ring from his jacket pocket, and telling me that he wants to spend the rest of his life with me.. The overwhelmed tears of happiness started rolling, & of course I said YES! After lots of hugs, kisses, and selfies, we made our way back down the mountain for a celebration drink.

There are many great dine-out options for food and beverages on the mountain, but we opted with enjoying a beer and some blue cheese on our balcony instead - endless views of the mountains, people having good times on the slopes..and the hot-tub! With Banff’s largest hot-tub on location, we would have been crazy to not get into our swimmers, provided bath robes, and go and enjoy! A relaxing way to enjoy all of the wonderful fun and landscapes around us..

After a good soaking in the hot-tub, it was time for some further outside fun.. Sunshine Mountain Lodge offer complimentary nightly activities, and we were lucky enough to be there for Tobogganing Tuesday’s. We simply signed up for the activity in the lobby, and booked ourselves into the 6pm session where we met the rest of our group and our friendly instructor for the afternoon. We were each given a toboggan, walked up the small hill which had been specially groomed for our use, and away we went! Having never tobogganed before, we have decided that this is an activity that is definitely not just for kids - we had the best best fun!

It wasn’t long before our stomach’s were rumbling and lucky for us, we had plenty of choice for dinner options. We decided to eat in the restaurant Eagles Nest Canadian Bistro, which is actually right inside of Sunshine Mountain Lodge - we were given a table for two right by the window, nothing but beautiful views!

Espresso martini’s, red wine, and delicious food, we would highly recommend the tofu & mushroom dish - so tasty! After enjoying a dessert, we made our way back to our warm and cosy room where we watched the sunset from our balcony and enjoyed some more red wine.

With so many activities to do straight from and in the lodge, we were regretful that we didn’t stay a second night. The location of Sunshine Mountain Lodge is second to none, it is the only ski-in-ski-out lodge in Banff, and a perfect spot to relax and stay the night when you have spent the day on the awesome slopes of Sunshine Mountain. Snowshoeing, tobogganing, hot-tub, casual and fine dining.. your time here will be certainly enjoyed!
