After spending a few days exploring and camping in the Grand Teton + Yellowstone National Parks, we made our way to Blue Sky Cabins, nestled in the mountains of Montana, around 1.5 hours away from Yellowstone NP. We were immediately welcomed by Kevin and Tammy, the owners of 44 gorgeous acres of land where they have built 6 separate and secluded luxurious cabins.
Kevin and Tammy showed us to the Sylvan Cabin, their most recently renovated cabin on the property, and our home for the next night! They kindly showed us through the cabin, explaining all that we needed to know to settle in and relax, assuring us that if there was anything else that we needed they were only a phone call away.
We walked into a spacious living area, comfortable couches, a warm fireplace, dining table and chairs, and a complete kitchen with fridge, oven, stove-top, microwave, and coffee brewer. With large glass windows, we had nothing but amazing views right from the comfort of our warm retreat.. Snow mountains, green valleys, forest, and a beautiful little pond.
On the dining table we found a few booklets with all the information that we needed to know about our surroundings, hiking recommendations, and lots of menu’s for restaurants. There was even a pair of binoculars for us to use for wildlife-spotting and bear-spray just in-case we decided to venture into the nearby mountains and forests.
As soon as we entered the large bedroom, we felt as though we were in something from a movie! A large king-sized bed with a mattress and pillow so comfortable you felt as though you were sleeping on a cloud.. soft blankets and pillows, and a bed-head like we had never seen before! Kevin has built and crafted a stunning piece of art with aspen tree trunks and branches, which frames the bed and adds such a warm character to the room. In the same room is where a luxurious two-person spa bath has been installed, right by the large window decorated with candles, again gracing you with nothing but mountainous landscape views!
In the next room is the spacious bathroom - a large two person shower with double shower-heads, and a steam-shower function.. something that we had never experienced before, but a shower will never be the same again! Definitely on our list of home-projects once we return from travelling. We also had our own washing machine and dryer facilities, which were very welcomed after 5 days of camping!
The floor in the bedroom and bathroom was heated, meaning that no matter how cold it is outside, you are always toasty warm in the cabin. The bathroom was equipped with so many wonderful little touches, a number of soft white towels and bath robes, shower soaps, hair products, hairdryer, complimentary chocolates, and even lip balm - Kevin & Tammy really have though of absolutely everything when preparing these cabin retreats!
With every room very thoughtfully decorated with soft furnishings, there is also some pretty stunning photography on the walls! Kevin and Tammy are wildlife photographers, and it was great to chat to them about all of the wild and wonderful animals that they have seen in their time. We shared great chats about the beauty of Yellowstone - and we were pretty excited to learn that an array of wildlife will grace our own front-yard during our stay here.. and that it did!
We watched as the deer, elk, turkeys, and magpies grazed and explored right outside of our window. Kevin & Tammy explained that at different times of the year they even have moose, grizzly bear and black bear, gray wolves, fox and coyotes come to visit!
By sunset we were sitting in the hot-tub with a glass of red wine in hand, watching as the sky above the mountains turned a gorgeous pinky orange colour.. Although there are numerous options for dining out in the nearby town of Red Lodge, we decided to stay-in for the night and cook-up our own dinner, which is made easy with indoor and outdoor porch BBQ cooking facilities. These cabins were much too delightful to leave!
With a large assortment of DVD’s to borrow, we settled in and watched a must-see documentary called “She Wolf”, a recommendation from Kevin & Tammy which followed the life of a wolf in the Yellowstone National Park. We fell asleep well fed, pampered and warm.
The following morning we awoke early for sunrise and met Kevin up on the hill of the property where he was viewing the wildlife with his telescope, and was kind enough to invite us to join along. After spotting lots of deer, elk, and moose, it was time for breakfast! Complimentary pancakes and coffee are provided in the cabins, so we cooked up a great feast before going back outside to enjoy the sunshine and fresh air at the nearby pond.
If you are looking for a weekend getaway in ultimate luxury, seclusion and with incredible views, Blue Sky Cabins truly are a must! Perfect for couples celebrating anniversaries, honeymoons, or just a weekend away from the kids or hustle and bustle of everyday life, once you arrive you will not want to leave! We couldn’t thank Kevin & Tammy enough for their kind hospitality, and making our stay such a perfect and special one! With many activities available in the nearby towns, or Yellowstone only being a short day-trip drive away, there is so much to do and see close by to Blue Sky Cabins, or alternatively.. just sit back, relax in the hot-tub, and enjoy doing absolutely nothing at all!
